Go Girls Mall Show (November 30, 2003) By Joel Nava
Last November 30, Sunday, I went to Rustan’s Cubao to watch the mall show of the Go Girls. Also there were the Star in a Million Finalists - Johann, Czarina, Erik, Marinel and Sheryn. I arrived there at around 1:00 PM to get a good seat. Whoa! I have to wait for 3 hours more for the show to start. During the wait, I met a lot of kids who are also watching. I also had to take my merienda (squid balls! Yum!).
The show started late at around 4:30 PM. Rick Striker, former DWDM 95.5 DJ was the host for the event. Of course, the opening was the Go Girls danced Bayani’s Otso-Otso. A lot of kids danced as they performed. They introduced themselves, and they had a contest known as the “Otso-Otso Showdown”. Majority of the participants were the kids. Joan’s partner won P1,000 and a CD sampler because he was the people’s choice. Too bad for me because I chose Princess’s partner. They also sang “Shake Shake” part of the album. I realized that there are three singers in the group. One of them is Mia.
I didn’t finish the whole show because it was getting dark outside and I needed to go home. Before, I left, I followed a young kid (unknown name, girl) near the backstage. I caught them putting their make-up on. I did meet them and shook their hands. I also took pictures of the group and Princess, since she’s the odd one. I was also lucky that I got an autograph from them. Guess what, Mia told me that they’re in friendly terms with the Gees. I’m happy for them also.
Notes: The Go Girls wore their usual Otso-Otso attire (striped) and boots (except for Princess, the one who I took a picture with, because she was in sandals). They did perform well with high spirits. I was nearly caught because I invaded the backstage, but the staff allowed me to get in. It was my first time to watch a mall show. I hope there’s more to come. Correction: there’s no Che-Che in the group. Her name was Rosette. The other name is Nica.
